And I will give you leaders after my own heart, who will guide you with knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15

Jesus sent us to be fishers of men: “We catch’em; He cleans’em.”

Pastor Cyril Hunkler was born and raised in North Dakota on a family farm with nine siblings.

Education: Pastor Cyril received his undergraduate degree from Carroll College in Helena, Montana, and has a Teaching Degree in French and English. Further, Pastor has a graduate degree from Mount Angel Seminary in St. Benedict, Oregon, as well as a Master’s Degree in Divinity (actually, no one “masters” the study of God, but that’s what the graduate degree is called!). He also completed online studies at Wartburg Seminary in Waverly, Iowa.

Pastor Cyril’s studies in spirituality are ongoing. He became certified as a Spiritual Director, with concentration on meditation (listening to God) and healing prayer (praying for the sick). Pastor believes that spiritual direction does not mean “directing” your spirituality; rather it involves sharing the spiritual journey with another spirituality seeker.

Years of Faithful Service! Pastor Cyril spent two years in the Peace Corps helping farmers grow fruit trees and increase productivity in Chad, Africa. He taught high school and middle school French and English five years in Browning and Whitefish, Montana. He has spent 28 years working and sharing recovery from alcoholism one-on-one with others and in group recovery efforts. Pastor has 37 years of Bible study through memorization, something he is happy to share with anyone interested in memorizing.

Pastor Cyril has served parishes primarily in western Montana in Dillon, Helena, Hamilton, Butte, Bozeman, Plains, Thompson Falls, Noxon, and Hot Springs. Locally, he served on staff at Calvary Lutheran in Grants Pass before coming to Zion in 2007.

In addition to serving churches, Pastor has worked as a caregiver in homes and institutions in Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota & Oregon. He thoroughly enjoys the older folks!

Pastor Cyril is happily married to Arlene and has three grown children and six grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys collecting dead trees and processing them into firewood for others!
