Did I Say That?

If you ever say the wrong thing as I sometimes do, it may stir your interest to consider that there is a “switch” you can turn on to be happier, healthier in your mind and body, AND more prosperous and more intelligent!

Dr. Caroline leaf, in her best-selling book, Switch On Your Brain, teaches that there is literally a switch you can turn on to be more intelligent. What you think with your mind changes your brain and your body — and your life!

It begins with God, and science is learning more all the time about how we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Ps. 139:14). Dr. Leaf is a cognitive neuroscientist, meaning that she researches and teaches on the topic of how mind, brain, soul, body, and emotions all interact. In addition to a weekly TBN show called the “Dr. Leaf Show,” she has researched and worked as a communication pathologist and audiologist, helping people hear and communicate more effectively since 1985. She uses a lot of big words, but she makes it understandable.

For instance, she teaches neuroplasticity — a mouthful that means that changes in thinking can actually re-wire the brain and effect behavioral change.

None of this is news to God. Dr. Leaf’s teachings begin with God and end with Him, as in Deuteronomy 30:19: “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

Since “the Lord’s mercies are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23), it should not be a surprise that our thoughts (which we choose) send signals throughout the body, transforming our thoughts and emotions into physiological and spiritual realities.

We are programmed by God for love, and although our bad choices program us to fail, be sick, and vegetate on the couch, our good choices — influenced by God’s Word – can “rewire, reprogram our brain and even produce new cells, a scientific reality called “epigenetics.”

The “switch” in Switch On Your Brain is your brain, switched on to God’s Word! Romans 12:2 urges us to “not be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

If you’d like to do better with the magnificent intellect that each of us has (“A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE”), I would be happy to offer Dr. Leaf’s teachings as a Bible Study. Our loving God truly does want us to “….Bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (II Corinthians 10:5).
